It’s the most wonderful time of the year. That’s what they say, but for most people, it’s the time of sore throats and colds. I am pretty lucky since I don’t get sick very often *knock on wood*. Mostly, I make sure that I don’t get sick during fever season by doing one thing I put my whole faith in…and that is taking shots! Yup, I take a lot of shots when I start to feel a bit weak and stuffy.
Now, I am sure that we have all at some point in life gotten advice from older people to take a shot of good herbal liqueur when feeling sick. Not every day is that type of day, so I’ll recommend to you a different kind of shot.
Do you know that feeling, when you wake up and it’s a bit harder to swallow anything down really? That’s good enough of a hint for me that I’m coming down with something, the winter is coming. Hint for me to start taking my super special homemade medicine. It might not taste very delicious (or even good for that matter) but sometimes you must take it and go with it.
This shot is full of ♥vitamins ♥antioxidants ♥anti-inflammatory ingredients
What’s so healthy about it?
Lemon: star of this show. Lemon is a well-known treatment for lowering body temperature and relieving throat infections due to its antibacterial properties. It is packed with many vitamins and minerals like vitamin C, A, E, B6, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc and more! It also contains powerful antioxidants and has cancer-fighting properties.
Ginger: very beneficial for boosting the immune system and relieving nausea. Besides all great health benefits that ginger has, it is also connected to reduced bacterial and viral infections. I often add a piece of ginger to my green tea, it adds flavor and benefits.
Turmeric: one of my all-time favorite spices. Main active ingredient in turmeric that has all the important medicinal properties is called curcumin. It is a very strong antioxidant and has very powerful anti-inflammatory qualities. *IMPORTANT TIP* turmeric should be consumed together with a pinch of pepper to enhance the absorption of curcumin into the bloodstream.
Cinnamon: another healthy and super delicious spice! Our dear cinnamon is loaded with powerful antioxidants which protect the body from oxidative damage. Furthermore, it helps fight bacterial and fungal infections and much more.
Maple syrup: a good natural sweeter choice that also contains some important vitamins and minerals. It holds numerous antioxidants, fights inflammation and may enhance antibiotic effects.
*Dates: this is an optional ingredient if you have date paste on hand, use it instead of maple syrup. Dates are rich in vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Date paste is very beneficial for recovery from illnesses but also for many other conditions, like digestion, cancer, weak bones, allergies, weight loss and heart disease.
