Do you freeze ripe bananas? Do you? If not, you are living under a rock, honey. Having frozen bananas on hand anytime is a must in my opinion. You just never know when you might get a craving for plant-based healthy ice cream or sweet energy-boosting smoothie, so you just gotta have frozen bananas and other frozen fruit on hand. I always make sure to have a bunch of peeled and cut into pieces bananas in the freezer. And then also other fruits, like berries for example. They are so much cheaper than fresh ones if not in season and just as good for you! Plus, they are an essential ingredient for many delicious smoothies.
Smoothies are awesome!
Now we have established a good plan! Freeze ripe bananas and get yourself some frozen mixed berries so you can have fun, mix and match flavors and have a different smoothie every day. Smoothies are a brilliant way to get your greens and nutrients in. They can be a great and super quick and simple breakfast idea for some speedy energy boost in the morning. You just gotta blend together the right ingredients. And for kids too! If your kids don’t like the taste of spinach, make them this yummy sweet smoothie and they won’t even taste ”that nasty green stuff”. The only thing you might want to change is replacing the frozen banana with fresh one so the smoothie isn’t that freezing cold.
We’ve all heard a saying that the morning shows how the day will be and I truly believe that. Especially in relation to food, for example, if you have a healthy well-balanced breakfast, you are less likely to eat ”bad” foods during the day. Just be positive, love your body and have a plan! Having a plan is always a good idea, having a meal plan is even better.
The right ingredients!
Before I get to my favorite berry smoothie, I just want to talk (or rather write) quickly about ingredients you want to blend into a smoothie. If you wish for a smoothie to fill you up, give you energy and nourish your body, you have to make sure that it is well balanced. Don’t just blend spinach, bananas, some water and call it a day, because you’re going to get hungry soon after, I promise. How many calories would this kinda smoothie have? 150 maybe? Well, for breakfast that’s 100% not enough. Our bodies need much more to function properly! I don’t count calories nor recommend it if not necessary, but just with a simple logic, I think we all agree that 150 calorie smoothie or any meal for that matter is not going to get you far. Maybe an afternoon snack, ok.
To list a few of my favorite ingredients to put in smoothies:
- frozen fruit (bananas, mixed berries, cherries, blueberries..)
- peanut or almond butter
- chia seeds
- hemp seeds
- cocoa powder
- soy milk
- 100% squeezed juices
Spinach and banana are not enough for breakfast smoothie. I even love to make smoothies for my afternoon snack and I still put all the foods possible in it. Plus, these are all good, nourishing ingredients, to make your body happy and fill you with energy and vitamins. Don’t be afraid of food, celebrate it. It’s not about calories, it’s about quality and whole, plant-based ingredients. AMEN!
Now let’s get to the recipe for my simple, plant-based energy boosting berry smoothie!Print

* A good tip is to cut your banana into small chunks before freezing it
** I get my 100% squeezed orange juice in the supermarket, be free to use at home freshly squeezed orange juice! You could also replace juice with water, but smoothie won’t be that sweet then.
