Another smoothie recipe! Another wholesome and filling breakfast idea. And yet another long rant about the importance of breakfast and oatmeal loving.
We all love a good quick out the door breakfast recipe and ideas. Especially for during the week, when some of you have school or work, and you just don’t want to sacrifice half an hour of sleep for some deluxe breakfast. That’s when people tend to either skip breakfast altogether, which results in slow metabolism, bad mood, low energy levels and binging on unhealthy foods throughout the day. Or, they do what families on the commercials do and slather a big tablespoon of good old Nutella on a piece of bread and call it a day.
LOVE YOUR BODY!
This goes against all healthy and nutritious breakfast protocols, people. I’m sure you already know that and if you don’t, go to your cupboard and read the ingredients list on our beloved, addictively delicious Nutella. Does any of it sound like it would be beneficial for your body? Besides that 3 seconds of pleasure you get when you taste it in your mouth. And if you are not sure how to understand the ingredients list, the important thing to note is that the ingredients are listed in order by the quantity of that ingredient in the product.
Anyways, a good rule of thumb is that the more ingredients the product has, the less of FOOD it is. Don’t be too hard on yourself, just minimize processed foods and focus on eating wholesome meals most of the time (I say, 80% of the time). Your body will thank you for it, and you’ll feel amazing, guaranteed. It’s all about making small changes one step at the time, even just going from eating Nutella every day to eating it once a week, you are winning! Balance is key.
Plus, did you know that you can make delicious Nutella at home? The one that you can eat with a spoon and don’t have digestion issues afterward, YAAAYY! I will share a recipe very soon, get excited and make sure you’re subscribed to my email list, so you don’t miss it! (spoiler alert: it’s going to be in my easy Valentine’s dessert recipe for two)
Now back to the most important meal of the day. Even if you don’t feel like stuffing your face right when you wake up, which I understand, apple sprinkled with cinnamon and dipped in peanut butter is amazing! I believe that eating something, even just some fresh fruit and nuts is better than starving until lunch. I’m no angel here. I used to skip breakfast all the time (and eat Nutella with a spoon way too frequently) until I learned to love it. And breakfast became my favorite meal of the day! BTW, I am NOT a morning person at all. There is nothing better than sleeping for 12 hours…or is there?
Oatmeal! Oatmeal is better than sleeping. At least for me, that’s what got me out of bed in the morning when I didn’t have motivation for anything else in life. Eating warm, satisfying oatmeal in the morning was my happy ritual. You see, food indeed is one of the most important things in life, heck, it even ranks as first in the hierarchy of fundamental human needs. Oatmeal with some fresh fruit, chia seeds or nut butter on top is the best balancing breakfast you could have. It provides you with sustainable energy, protein, healthy fats from nuts or seeds, loads of fiber and countless health benefits.
Now you are probably wondering, what if I don’t have time to cook and eat oatmeal in the morning? And also, why am I talking about oatmeal in the smoothie recipe post?! Bare with me please, I can’t help it.
Is there any other way to get all of those nutrients and benefits from oats? Of course, there are plenty of options. And I want to share with you my next favorite way to eat (or rather drink) oats besides oatmeal.
OATS IN SMOOTHIES!
Maybe I’m just crazy but every night before I fall asleep I plan out my breakfast in my head, and I look forward to it. Anybody else? Please, tell me I’m not insane. I don’t think I am because planning your breakfast can be a winning strategy towards your healthy lifestyle goals. If you don’t have 30 minutes to spare in the morning to cook and eat a warm meal, planning it a day before can change your breakfast game! Plus, who wouldn’t be excited about the mornings if your breakfast is that delicious?! Oats are like holidays, I can’t wait for the next day to eat them in 100 different ways.
Oats have been proven time and time again to be one of the healthiest foods on the planet. They are full of essential nutrients, minerals and packed with vital fiber to help improve digestion, boost the immune system, lower cholesterol and even prevent cancer! In my book, prevention is better than cure and just like Hippocrates said: ”let food thy medicine and medicine be thy food”, let’s listen to the man, he was on to something. Even doctors state that just by eating one oatmeal a day we could improve our health significantly.
And why should you bother with all this you ask? Because health is our most valuable wealth, that’s why. And if you don’t take care of your body and health you won’t be able to do what you love, follow your big dreams and pursue your goals.
